One of the most popular exercise bikes currently on Amazon is the Ultrasport F-Bike. Having spent a week with the bike in-between my legs I can appreciate why it’s so popular, it’s cheap and it folds away into a fairly compact space. This places the bike firmly into the first time home bike buyers’ market, making it ideal for those wanting to try a home exercise bike without laying out a great deal of money. Within this Ultrasport F-Bike Review we’ll look take a closer look at this bike, what’s it like to use and whether or not it’s a good purchase.
Ultrasport F-Bike Review: Who’s It ForIf you’ve tried one of your gyms exercise bikes and you’re looking to replicate that experience at home without spending a lot of money, then the Ultrasport F-Bike is definitely an option you’ll want to consider. There is, of course, a big price difference between a gym bike and the Ultrasport, but as long as you realise you’re not going to get a gym bike for 5% of the cost, you’re unlikely to be disappointed.
Ultrasport F-Bike Review: What’s It Like to UseOne of the bigger selling points of the Ultrasport F-Bike is the small footprint the bike has when folded up. If you’re like me and seem to accumulate more things than you know what to do with, then storage is probably going to be at a premium. Thankfully I was able to fold this bike up and fit it into the cupboard space under our stairs, which is no easy feat given the variety of mop heads, buckets, storage boxes and other bits and pieces already calling that space home. Changing the bike from its folded position into a usable state is easy peasy, just remove the pin, fold the bike out and insert the pin again and you’re good to go. Even a rather petite girl like me was able to manage this without too much fuss, so it should be relatively straightforward to fold the bike away every night after use. As you’d expect, the seat height is adjustable, but you’ll not be able to do much about the height of the handlebars. Regardless, both myself (5’5”) and my Husband (6’2”) were both able to use the bike in relative comfort. The pedals come equipped with straps to secure your feet in place. When I didn’t use the straps I found my feet could slip quite easily, whether this is due to the plastic the pedals were made off or due to my choice of footwear, I don’t know. But you’ll definitely want to secure your feet to avoid injury, especially when you’re sprinting on the bike. I nearly face planted onto the digital display more than once do my lack of strap use.
Ultrasport F-Bike Review: Features and Design
The features available on the bike are relatively Spartan, there are no preset workouts or any fancy synching with your phone to track calories burned, but I have my doubts as to whether any of that stuff is necessary.Everything you’ll likely need is featured on the bike, including time, calories, speed, distance and heart rate. The resistance is manually controlled going from one through to eight. If you’re an experienced cycler or someone that regularly attends spin classes, you’re probably going to be disappointed with the resistance levels available. For a new user or someone with little experience looking for an introduction to indoor cycling, the resistance levels are perfectly acceptable and the highest setting will probably be quite challenging. I found that the low settings made for a perfect warm up or cool down, it was very easy to sit there and keep the pedals moving. The higher setting was perfect for when I wanted a short intense sprint. One minute of cycling on the hardest setting was exhausting. I made my own workout which consisted of two minutes of easy cycling, three minutes of medium difficulty cycling and then one minute of all-out cycling on the hardest setting. Repeating this just four or five times had me sweating and feeling like I had participated in the Tour de France. A full 45-minute session of this sort of workout burned an amazing ~550 calories, which is absolutely amazing. The bike is also powered by your cycling, which means no power cords to trip over or awkward batteries to replace, it’s all very eco-friendly and is quite reassuring that you’re not going to run out battery power during a workout.
Ultrasport F-Bike Review: Final Thoughts and Conclusions
The Ultrasport F-Bike is an inexpensive home exercise bike which serves as an excellent introduction to working out at home. The bike is compact, well built, easy to move around, store and contains enough features for most people. While it’s true the resistance settings will not pose much of a challenge for seasoned cyclists, this is not the intended audience. New cyclists will find plenty of resistance to keep the workouts effective for a long time. Would I recommend the Ultrasport F-Bike? The simple answer is YES. There’s not much to dislike about this bike, it does what it sets out to do and other than a few niggles around handlebar adjustment and lack of resistance, the bike is a great piece of equipment. I’m more than happy to keep using this bike as part of my home gym. If you’re wondering where to buy the bike, I can see no reason to not use Amazon. If you use the link below I receive a very small commission which helps me keep the site running.
